Today I went to Fresh Grocer which is a supermarket that is 2 blocks from Temple University Campus. The main reason why I went to Fresh Grocer was to compare the prices of this store and the prices found at the Reading Terminal. The prices at Fresh Grocer were noticeably different than the prices at Reading Terminal. This is due to the fact that the majority of the food distributed and sold to Fresh Grocer is either pre cooked, pre packaged, flash frozen and or processed. Very little of the selection is deemed organic. Although a handful of the meat in the meat section was listed as grade A and did not contain any hormones or fertilizers it was still processed meat. The food at Reading Terminal is imported, fresh and organic. The most expensive thing at Reading Terminal seemed to be the cheese which topped out at around 50 dollars a pound which was a cheese imported from France, meanwhile the cheese at Fresh Grocer topped out at around 17 dollars a pound for the organic cheeses and as small as a mere 99 cents for 16 slices of processed American cheese. So in conclusion the Fresh Grocer is much cheaper but it is for a reason.
